Charts-Is-Us
How we do it
You tell us what inch dimensions you want for the finished chart and the
stitch-count of the fabric you wish to stitch on. From this we can calculate
what the stitch dimensions need to be. If we are to scan an image you
sent, we will scan only the area of the picture to be included and we will set
the scan density so that the pixel dimensions of the desired area will be the
same as the stitch dimensions needed for the chart. This way, each pixel
will become a stitch. If we are to work from an image sent to us by e-mail,
we will use an image editor to view the image and cut out the area to be
used and to then store it in a BMP file. The BMP file will then be
downsized so the pixel dimensions are equal to the desired stitch
dimensions. The amount of detail possible in any image is directly
proportional to the total number of pixels that make up the image.
Therefore, we can never scale an image to be larger than the original pixel
dimensions because there is no way to create additional detail and as a
result, scaling upwards would make the image look very rough.
